Iran War: Universal Values Undermined & The Rules-Based Order Bluff
Simplistic Thoughts
Here’s my take which is quite simple;
The influence of the western model is failing because the model is failing internally and has a poor track record in dealing with foreign challenges - particularly where military interventions are concerned.
Soft power is constantly being undermined/ignored and the focus instead has been directed toward coercion through military supremacy and economic influence where there are now plenty of “kids” in town.
Military power is being offset by resilience, geography, unconventional power and the surge of militia tactics used by militant groups relying on cheap/accessible arms/technology.
State terrorism is being challenged by non-state actors with the reach/tactics capable of neutralising conventional power/influence.
International law is being undermined left-right and centre by the inconsistency of its application and the UN has become a largely impotent structure - particularly where it matters the most. So rules-based order - in my opinion - never really existed, but now this concept just being revealed and it’s power is becoming more blatant.
So to sum up my generation and the ones that preceded it messed up big time, and what is left for us to do is just gift rap the big mess created and pass to the new generations to fix it (if they possibly can) and more importantly ensure there’s a gift card greeting on it with the message “and good luck with that, but try and think of us in good terms”. I think we should do better NOW, what do you think?
